The Saga of Rex
The Animated Film Project

To share the experience of making the film with animation enthusiasts and supporters, I have launched a Secret Production Blog on February 4th, 2013.

The Saga of Rex Secret Production Blog is a place where I am documenting the making of the film and giving a real insight into my process. I am learning a lot of new things as I go and sharing this knowledge makes it all the more worthwhile. Subscribers are able to leave comments and suggestions. This is a fun interactive experience for everyone involved.

The Saga of Rex Secret Production Blog was part of the reward incentives for the Kickstarter campaign launched last year in order to get seed money to do the first four minutes of the film (If you are not familiar with the project, I suggest you check out the Kickstarter page describing in great detail what I'm trying to accomplish).

Since the completion of the campaign, I have received requests from people who missed the boat the first time around, and would now like to have the opportunity to be part of this. So here is your chance. More importantly, your subscription allows additional funds for the production. Our budget is extremelly tight and we've taken a big hit by miscalculating the shipping cost of our Kickstarter rewards. All extra funds collected from the subscriptions will go directly into the production of the film.

The subscription is set at $20 and will cover the entire period of time it will take to make the four-minute film. This will also give you access to all previous posts and archives. Once you subscribe, we will do our best to send your access pass within 48 hours.

Hope to see you there.

The adorable little fox named Rex is plucked from his home world by a mysterious spaceship and transported to the arcane world of Edernia, where he meets Aven, an enigmatic biomorph with a flying saucer.

Follow his epic journey as he travels through outer-worldly landscapes, faces strange perils, and makes surprising encounters. A story that is in turn adventurous, heroic, tragic, romantic, and wonderfully surprising, The Saga of Rex perfectly captures a vision of whimsy and wonder that will delight young and old.

Michel Gagné's lush and colorful illustrations, combined with cinematic storytelling, have earned The Saga of Rex a worldwide following. For the first time, the complete and unabridged tale originally serialized over a period of seven years in the award-winning anthology, Flight, is now available in all its glory in a single volume.

Here's what the press is saying about THE SAGA OF REX:

"...a sensitive and intriguing graphic novel for people who like a little enigma in what they read."
-- Publisher Weekly

"It's epic! It's deep! It's fundamental! And yet, there's something simple, warm and personal about it that goes straight to that little spot in your heart that makes you smile like a child again."
-- Sheena McNeil,Sequential Tart

"The free-floating, heroic whimsy of the story arrives at a sweet ending, but the real experience is in swooping through Gagné’s deliriously gorgeous, silent panels and breathtaking planetary vistas."
-- Booklist

"...an absolute tour de force... The set pieces are muscular in both the visual and storytelling sense. The fluidity, sense of play, and imagination exhibited by Gagne get Flight off to a champagne-cork-popping start.."
-- Jeff Vandermeer, Book Slut

"Tons of energy, great flow to the art, and really unique monster designs."
-- Humphrey Lee, Ain't It Cool News

"...visually stunning wordless tale..."
-- Randy Lander, The Fourth Rail

"...wonderful and mysterious."
-- Rebecca Buchanan, Sequential Tart

"...a touching story about sacrifice, gratitude, and love."
-- Michael May, Fringe Benefits / Newsarama Blogs

...beautiful and complex tale.
-- Lance Victor Eaton, BookLoons Reviews

"Mysterious, surreal, pretty and disturbing all at once..."
-- Rick Kleffel, The Agony Column

"...beautiful and deeply alien..."
-- Publishers Weekly

"...a piece of virtuoso art in both the color and storytelling."
-- Marc Mason , Comics Waiting Room

"...a silent story of mind-blowing proportions [...] is in turn adventurous, heroic, tragic and wonderfully surprising. [Gagné's] art perfectly captures a vision of whimsy and wonder. This is what comics are about, folks."
-- Michael Aronson, Silver Bullet Comics

"...startling and enchanting."
-- Stuart Carter, Emerald City

"Stunning, charming, and heartrending..."
-- D. G. D. Davidson, The Sci Fi Catholic
