Early Gagné Collected Artist Michel Gagné has been a driving force in alternative art and animation. Born in Québec, Canada, he first started drawing characters and special effects for animated films like The Iron Giant, The Land Before time, All Dogs Go to Heaven, and An American Tail. Arguably, Gagné’s true calling has been comics. Gagné’s art style is unmistakable. His critically acclaimed first book, A Search for Meaning: The Story of Rex, marked the birth of GAGNÉ International Press. From there, he was a steamroller. Gagné’s name was inescapable in various indie comic circles. With his wife Nancy, they expanded the Gagné library, and the artist’s reputation as a top-shelf alternative book publisher. Many comics fans were probably first introduced to the artist in his bizarre controversial Batman tale, Spore (Detective Comics #776-780). For those new readers, and longtime fans, the Parables: An Anthology book will be a refreshing treat for Gagné collecting. This captivating volume collects the first four, whimsical graphic storybooks created by Michel Gagné: The Bird, the Spider, and the Octopus; The Great Shadow Migration; The Mystery of He; and A Search for Meaning: The Story of Rex.
