Rex
meets Usagi Yojimbo
A
few months ago, Stan Sakai (famed creator of
Usagi Yojimbo) and
I were invited to be guests of honor at the upcoming 2004
Anthrocon convention in Philadelphia.
Like
most conventions, one of the guest of honor is asked to create
a cover image for the program. Instead of tossing a coin to decide
which one of us should take on the responsibility, we decided
to collaborate.
This
was a fun project and I think it turned out rather well. You can
a larger view.
I
also did a pinup for the inside of the program (image on the right).

People
with Tattoos
It
really blows my mind when I meet people who have my drawings
tattooed on their bodies. That truly is the most extreme
form of flattery. From all the reports I get, it sounds
like my art is "branding" an increasing amount
of fans.
Here's
a picture I received, just a few days ago, from a fan
named Joost who lives in Amsterdam.

my art is tattooed on your skin, send

Another
Insanely Twisted Rabbit for the Fan
Art Gallery
Here's
another cool drawing (click on image for a larger view) that was
sent to me with the following email:
I
was browsing through the internet not too long ago and i came
across your website, I was really intrigued by your style of artworks,
and i thought that i would try my hand at making a twisted bunny
myself. I attached what I came up with, I hope you like it [enough]
to add to your beautiful selection of fan art! Hopefully one day
I might have a portfolio of your status as well, very vey nice
work!

An
Insanely Twisted Rabbit by Kelly Peters
While
navigating the web a few days ago, I came across this cool drawing
(Click on image for a larger view). It was posted on the Yerf
Gallery with the following caption:
"OK,
there's this guy, Michel Gagne (look him up) he is way too incredible.
He did this book, Insanely Twisted Rabbits. It inspired
this."
I
was very flattered by the comment, so I sent the artist, Kelly
Peters, an email asking if I could feature her bunny on my site.
She was delighted to hear from me and gladly agreed.

Creatures
of Katrana debut on Superdudes.net
On
January 23rd, I was contacted by Brian Selzer,
the chief content officer for SuperNation, LLC.
Here is part of the email he sent me:
"I
really like your work. Great stuff!
I
head up content for a popular website called Superdudes.net, and
I would be interested in having you create some art for our site
right away.
In
particular, check out our Mobius Arena game, and the Expansion
Packs we are offering. This is an extremely popular challenge
game online. And we are offering players to create custom decks
with new cards each month.

Check
it out, and let me know what you think. I am open to having you
work on a theme that you would be into. Our next deck is called
Gothic Asylum, and that might be perfect for your style."
After
exchanging a few more emails and agreeing on terms, I created
a set of 10 images called The Creatures of Katrana for
the Mobius Arena's April expansion pack. This is a very
fun game and I'd recommend anyone to check it out. Here is more
info about Superdudes.net and the Mobius Arena:
Superdudes.net
– Unleash the Hero Within!
Superdudes.net
is the fastest growing entertainment site with nearly 1 million
members. The site focuses on role-playing, gaming, and community
features. Positioned as a cross-media brand, Superdudes is on
target to follow the success of Pokemon, Neopets, or Yu-Gi-oh.
Superdudes is also dedicated to empowering people to take positive
action in their communities.
Create
your own unique character and join in the Superdudes Adventure.
As Knowledge Knuggets (Knuggs) are collected, members grow stronger,
and aid the story heroes in preventing Decay from destroying the
Universe. Members are active for hours at a time in order to earn
more Knuggs, and rise up the charts as a hero. Top heroes can
end up being featured in offline media. Comic Books and an Animated
Series are in development.
The
Mobius Arena is where Superdudes go head-to-head and battling
each other. In this simulated battle, the winner is able to capture
the losers head. There have been over 5 million challenges to
date in the Mobius Arena. New card themes are available on the
Superdudes.net web site monthly (Expansion
Packs). The animated cards allow the players to Power Up,
Block, Attack, and more.
