SIGGRAPH
2006 Announces Computer Animation Festival Schedule
Here's
part of the press release:
The
Computer Animation Festival jury for SIGGRAPH
2006 selected 97 films from
726 entries for exemplary use of computer-generated
imagery and animation and compelling storytelling.
"Word is out that the Computer Animation
Festival is one of the premier venues for showcasing
artistic talent in the film world. In fact, we
witnessed a remarkable 25% increase in submissions
from 2005 to 2006, and with that increase the competition
amongst films is fierce," stated Terrence
Masson, the SIGGRAPH 2006 Computer Animation Festival
chair from Digital Fauxtography Inc. "The
bar of excellence has risen even higher and this
year's crop of accepted pieces is diverse, thought-provoking,
and technically superb."
With
that much competition, I was delighted to learn
that my 12 "Insanely
Twisted Shadow Puppets" interstitials have
been selected for the program!
SIGGRAPH
2006 will be held in Boston, Massachusetts, July
30-Aug. 3. Click here for more details as well
as a full listing of the films to be shown.

The
Honey B Show
Recently,
I was invited to participate in an upcoming art
show featuring various rendition of the "Honey
B" Doll.
The
concept is this: Each artist is given a blank
doll and has to come up with it's own rendering.
I've had the doll sitting in front of me for
the past 2 weeks working a few hours here
and there. After two weeks of struggle I
finally completed this:

here for a full turnaround.
Then
I realized I wasn't satified with it and in a
spur of total frustration, I threw the doll against
the wall as hard as I could, destroying it in
the process. It's a good thing I took pictures
before its demise.
I'm
starting anew on another blank doll. Hopefully,
I'll like the result better this time.

Back
from California
Nancy
and I just got back from California where we attended
the Alternative
Press Expo. The convention was fun
except for the fact that I was sick with a cold
and had lost my voice.
We
liked APE quite
a bit. It had a nice laid back atmosphere with
lots of talented indie artists/writers. It was
great to see all our friends from Flight. We're
planning on returning next year.
Here
are a few other unrelated news bit I thought I'd
share:
Item
- Flight
Volume 2 has been nominated for
an Eisner Award for Best Anthology. How cool
is that? Many of the Flight authors received
nominations in other categories as well. Check
out this link.
Item
- The sold out Demon
Dog Rabbit Statue is fetching
higher and higher prices on ebay. Check these
recent auctions here and here.
I should have kept a few for myself!
Item
- Gallery
1988 is having its I
AM 8-BIT opening on Tuesday, April
18th. I have 2 pieces in the show which can
be viewed here and here.
If you're in the Los Angeles area, check it
out.

Gagne
International at APE
If
you are in the Northern California area, please
come and meet Nancy and I at San Francisco's Alternative
Press Expo on April 8th and 9th. Our
booth number is 240.
I'll
also take part in a panel on Sunday (details below).
Hope to see you there!
Sunday,
April 2nd, 1:45-2:40 Taking Flight: The Craft
of Comics — It
was the groundbreaking color anthology that flew
in under everyone’s radar, but ended up
landing everywhere. Flight, in two volumes to
date, not only features stories on the topic
of flight but also showcases a group of young
artists taking their own flights. With Flight
3 due out in just two short months, Kazu
Kibuishi, editor of Flight and the creator
of Copper, Daisy Kutter, and Amulet, discusses
the craft of creating comics in both their short
and long forms. He will be joined by several
Flight artists, including Erika Moen, Michel
Gagné, Chris Appelhans, Richard
Pose, Neil Babra, Clio
Chiang, and Khang Le.
