Frenzied
Fauna Reviewed @ MonsterLibrarian.com
"Frenzied
Fauna is an incredibly imaginative animal
alphabet book by artist Michel Gagne. Gagne's
animals are drawn in fantastic and sometimes
scary ways, with spikes, teeth, tusks, and a
half dozen eyes." (read

Rex
Tattoos
Some
people just can't get enough of Rex! Check out
these two emails I received this week:

Tattoo inspired by your art
Date: Thu, 24 Aug 2006 10:10 AM
Hi
Mr. Gagne,
My name is Niki and my husband got a chance to meet you at Comic-Con this
summer. You might not remember but he bought an autographed copy of "A
search for Meaning, the Story of Rex". I had seen this story in a collection
of your works a few months ago and was so touched by Rex's travels, especially
through insanity, that I knew I had to get him tattooed. Here is a photo
of that tattoo:
Thank
you for creating beautiful work,
Niki

Gagne Tattoo
Date: Fri, 25 Aug 2006 6:16 PM
I
am a quite a fan of Gagne's work, and have been
to the website many times, but for some reason
i never thought to send you a picture of my tattoo.
I
got it in dayton, OH a few years ago. It wraps
around my upper arm and says "and so rex
knew that the journey he began would surely last
an entire life span". In hindsight, i wish
i didn't add the text, because strangers are
always grabbing my arm and trying to read it.
This gets ackward, because the text wraps around
my arm too, and the shoulder joint doesn't like
to move that way.
Everybody
loves this tattoo, and after i explain what it
means and who you are they all say they are gonna
rush out and buy the book! Whether they do or
not is still up for speculation. Anyway, i just
thought you would want to see this. Feel free
to post it on the website..

My
Story for Flight 4
I
just wrapped up the new chapter of "The
Saga of Rex" that will be featured in Flight
4. This one is 32 pages and I'm very happy
with how it turned out. I'll be shipping the
files to Kazu
Kibuishi (editor extraordinaire) this week.
The whole saga is really starting to take shape.
The
work I've seen for Flight 4 so far is
looking tremendous. This might very well be the
best volume yet! Unfortunately, you'll have to
wait until next June before you can pick it up.
Check
out Flight's official blog here.

Exposure in Singapore's Prime Toy Magazine
I
think the folks at Playtimes Magazine must like
my work. Last
April, they had a two-page spread on the Insanely
Twisted Rabbits Collectibles. And now
in the latest issue, they once again featured my
work in a cool two-page spread. This time they
reviewed two of my books: "Odd Numbers" and "Insanely
Twisted Rabbits". It's nice to see my work
getting exposure in the Asian countries.

"Insanely
Twisted Shadow Puppets" at Siggraph 2006
When
it was announced that "Insanely Twisted Shadow
Puppets" would be shown at Siggraph
2006's Electronic Theater, Mike Hogue,
who animated on 3/4 of the shorts, immediately
purchased tickets to go partake in the event. Unfortunately,
I had other commitments and couldn't attend, so
I made Mike promise that he'd send me a full report
upon his return. Here
it is!

XEKO's
site gets a facelift!
XéKO's
official website has been completely redesigned.
Mike Grigg put it together and I think he did a
fabulous job!
Go
to XéKO's official site.
I
was invited to create several of the site's components
including the masthead, the navigational leaves,
the vines and the "Agent Zone". Many
of my card illustrations are also featured.
If
you are interested in ordering the game or the
booster packs, you
can do it directly from us (which is always
appreciated).

out "Michel's Art of XéKO" here.

The
Saga of Rex - Preview
One
of my projects I'm the most excited about these
days is my big 160-page graphic novel The
Saga of Rex. Chapters from the story
are being serialized in Flight and
the response has been very positive.
Click
on the image above for a 15-page peek at "Underworld" featured
in Flight 3.

Back
to Bellingham
It's
good to be home!
This
year's San Diego Comic-Con was just insane. At
an estimated 140 000 attendees, it was too crowded,
too noisy and too exhausting. We will be taking
a break from having a booth at this event for the
foreseable future. Due to my lack of enthusiasm,
I won't be doing a report this year. Sorry.
Our booth
A
big thank you to Thom and Rhonda Trainor who helped
us with the booth, and to my friends, fans and
everyone who stopped by.
Although
I didn't enjoy the Comic-Con very much, the trip
to California was very fruitful in itself. Lots
of exciting meetings. I'm very enthused about several
projects ranging from publishing, movies and games
that are presenting themselves to me. The next
several months will be very busy. Of course, I'll
keep everyone here posted as things evolve. Cheers!
