Continuing
the Sagas
Finding
time to do my annual chapter of The
Saga of Rex and ZED is
always a bit of a challenge.
Looking
at my schedule recently, I realized that my deadline
for Flight
5 (which will feature the next chapter
of Rex: "The Broken Path")
is November 14th. At first I panicked, due
mostly
to the fact that this
particular chapter is the longest yet at an
estimated 36-38 pages. I also felt overwhelmed
by all the other
projects I'm currently doing.
Inspired
by all the hard working "Flight artists" who
have full time jobs and manage to get their stories
done somehow, I buckled up and
got
to work. This morning, I'm happy to announce
that
I just completed page 21 and I'm on course
to be done on time. Cool!
Here's
a sample page of "The
Broken Path".

Outlaw
Social Zombies
Mollie
Kaye, who wrote the wonderful new libretto for
The Specter's
Bride, asked me if I could do a
zombie rendition of the opening act, a band called
Outlaw
Social. She sent me the picture below:
...and
this is what I sent back to her:

Production
Design for The Spectre's Bride
Those
close to me know that one
of my long time dreams has been to design
sets for a live opera or classical ballet.
Imagine
my surprise when I was contacted by Simon
Capet,
artistic director of the Victoria
Philharmonic Choir, this past June.
He asked me if I'd be interested in designing
a live shadow
puppet
theatrical presentation of Dvorak's epic
masterpiece, "The Spectre's Bride". It didn't
take long for me to agree to the proposal!
This
is going to be an amazing show folks! 80+ singers,
a 65-piece orchestra
and
a spectacular shadow puppet show designed
by yours truly and perfomed under the supervision
of award-winning puppeteer Tim Gosley from
Jim Henson's fame.
This
incredible event will take place on October
30th and 31st at
the University
of Victoria’s
Farquhar theater in Victoria,
British Columbia, Canada. Mark
your calendars.
See
the official press release here.
Check
out some of the scenery and shadow puppet designs
I created for the show.

recently got an email letting me know that one

in The Best in SW Conference.
This came as a surprise since I did not submit
the short and

XEKO:
Indonesia has launched!
As
many of you know, I've been involved with the
Xeko trading card game since 2005. My work
consists of setting up the visual style, doing
the main card illustrations, designing visual
components for the Xeko
website, etc. For this
new set, called Mission:
Indonesia, I created lots
of new illustrations that I hope you will enjoy.
I added a bunch to my Xeko
page so check it out.
