West Chester Film Festival
March 30th, 2011

Cool! Just received this email from the West Chester Film Festival:

Congratulations!  The West Chester Film Festival has selected your film, “Sensology” as a nominee in our Best Experimental/Art category.

Nominees are selected by choosing the top-scoring films as determined by our screeners. They are then viewed by a jury of industry professionals who determine a winner in each category.  Winners are announced at the Festival’s Closing Night Party.  Winners who are present receive the “Coveted Chester,” a custom designed and handmade glass statuette.  Winners who are not present will be contacted the following day, and emailed a certificate and winner laurels the following week.

Thank you, and congratulations.

Animation Reporter Features Sensology
March 27th, 2011

A couple of days ago, I received a copy of a very cool magazine from India called, Animation Reporter. I really enjoyed the magazine which focuses a great deal on animation filmmakers and their craft.

I was also surprised and delighted to find that my latest short film, Sensology, was spotlighted over two pages. I guess I'd completely forgotten the interview I did with them after the Oscar Shortlist announcement back in December. Click on the images below for a larger view.

Back From PAX East
March 17th, 2011

Joe Olson (my partner in crime), Andrew Scott (my sound maestro) and I had a lot of fun in Boston at the PAX convention. The reception to ITSP was incredible. The booth stayed completely busy the whole time with lines of anxious gamers waiting patiently their turns to experience ITSP. Everyone was so excited and positive towards the game, it really warmed our hearts.

Joe and I did several interviews and answered a lot of questions. We were given the go ahead by Microsoft to reveal that the game will be released this summer and that it will feature a coop version.

Observing people playing the game was very insightful. We took a lot of notes and will make sure to use the knowledge we gathered to make the game even better.

Here's a sample of the reviews we received from journalists who got to test the game for themselves:

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet Premieres at PAX East
March 9th, 2011

Seattle, WA, March 2011 – Renowned artist Michel Gagne, Fuelcell Games and Microsoft will be on hand to premiere Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet (ITSP) at PAX East in Boston, MA, March 11-13, 2011.

Attendees will be invited for the first time to play ITSP.  Co-Creators, Michel Gagne and Joe Olson (CEO, Fuelcell Games) will be on hand for interaction and discussion.  The game, which Gagne and Olson first discussed in 2007, has been in full scale development since March 2010 after announcing that Microsoft would be publishing it to Xbox LIVE Arcade.

"The team behind Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet is the most talented, dedicated, creative, and hard working group I've ever had the pleasure to work with in my 14 years in the industry. The development team at Fuelcell Games combined with Michel’s experience in traditional animation and design has brought a lot to the table and has been a great learning experience for all involved”, remarked Joe Olson. “I'm extremely proud and truly blessed to be a part of such a unique and amazing project. When it is unleashed on the world I strongly believe it's going to stand out amongst the Xbox LIVE Arcade offerings".

“After working on this project for the past five years, it will be incredibly exciting to finally be able to share it with an audience”, said Michel Gagne. “I’m confident that the dedication and love that went into making Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet will result in a visually charged experience coupled with a true sense of wonder”.

In Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, players will experience a captivating adventure set in a unique, rich and insanely twisted world, blending exploration, intense shooter action, and puzzle-solving with gorgeous visuals, and rich story telling in a Hollywood quality presentation.  Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet draws you into an epic journey full of surprises, danger and wonder.

PAX East will be held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center from March 11-13, 2011 and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet can be seen at the Xbox booth #850.

Coverage from Montreal
March 4th, 2011

Insanely Twisted shadow Planet has caught the eyes of La Presse, Canada's largest francophone newspaper. They did a video interview with me a few days ago, and today, they published a cool little article in both the printed and on-line version of the newspaper. Here's a link to the article.

My apologies to my partner, Joe Olson, who gets referred to as Joe Wilson in the article.
