Paint Me Barbados
February 8, 2010

From February 12th to February 21st, the Creative Artworx Design Group in Barbados will be hosting Paint Me Barbados - The Ultimate Artist Experience, where several international artists will be giving workshops and lecturing about their respective fields of expertise. It should be a great time for all who attend. I was asked to be a part of the event, and I'm pleased as punch! My presentation will be on February 13th from 3:00 to 6:00pm.

WORKSHOP DETAILS

I will give an overview of my art career and discuss creating animation and special effects for movies; designing characters for animated films and television projects; visualizing videogame projects; creating comics and graphic novels.

I will share my philosophy about creativity and give insight on how to be successful as an independent artist. The presentation will include several video clips and images showing my process and approach to various assignments ranging from mainstream Hollywood movies to personal fine arts.

I am excited about this trip. Besides the lecture (which I hope will be inspiring to those who attend), I look forward to meeing the people, visiting the island, swimming in the beautiful ocean, and reading some good sci-fi books!

Those in Barbados who think I still look like that picture above might be a bit disappointed, though ...hehehe.

The Toon That Changed My Life!
February 3, 2010

To celebrate their 200th issue, Animation Magazine asked some of their favorite animation artists to tell 'em about the movie/TV show or characters that made them realize they wanted to work in the toon business. When asked, I chose the four animated films I felt had a biggest impact on my youthful years. Read the article here.

Super Dogs
January 27, 2010

About a year ago, I was commissioned by a Japanese company (Urbis Films Tokyo) to create a handful of character designs for a proposed Anime series about super-powered dogs. Unfortunately, the series never materialized. I asked Urbis if it'd be OK for me to post the designs on my site and they graciously agreed. So here they are! Click for a larger view.

Over the past two years, I've designed well over a hundred characters for various movie and television companies. Hopefully, I'll be able to post some of them here in the future.

ITSP Gets Foreign Press
January 17, 2010

We're extremely close to a deal for Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet. I can't wait for people to play it. Meanwhile, check the coverage it's getting from the foreing press.

Here's a PDF link for the 4-page article/interview in Spanish from Mexico's Gamers Magazine.

Here are links to the on-line version of an interview/article that was published Russia's Ignomania.

Health and Logo
January 10, 2010

After a bout with a deadly virus that nearly caused my demise a couple of years ago, I decided to really focus on my health. This includes completely changing my eating habits, doing Stanley Burroughs' Master Cleanse every year, as well as receiving Network Chiropractic Care every week. Since starting on this new regiment, I have not been sick once in two years - no flu, no cold, nothing!

Rhythms of Life, the office I go to for my chiropractic entrainments, was in the process of getting a new logo. I decided to give it a go with the help of my wife Nancy over a Saturday afternoon. I'm happy that Dr. Kim, the owner of the practice, was enchanted with my attempt and the logo was quickly adopted.

Living in a country were good healthcare is unaffordable for independent artists like myself who don't get coverage through work, it's important to stay healthy. Network Care is one of the methods I use.

2010
January 3, 2010

Last year, was so much fun, I hardly saw it passing by. As incredible as it may sound, the New Year looks even more exciting. Here are the projects I'm looking forward to the most.

The Saga of Rex - I finished the last pages of the new 36-page chapter which will be featured in Flight Vol. 7 coming out in July. I already have a major publisher lined up for the 200-page collected edition slated for an October 2010 release date. I will make an announcement as soon as the ink is on paper.

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet - We are in the process of finalizing our publishing deal and will resume full production very soon. Starting in April, ITSP will become my full time job for a period of about one year. This is a dream project and I can't wait to get back to it - this time around with full funding!

Fixed Fragmented Fluid - For the past three and a half years, I've been developing and animating what I would consider to be one of my most ambitious animated project to date. Working with famed composer Barry Guy, and a seven-piece ensemble, I will unveil a one-hour live performance combining music and animation, in a completely new way. As we approach the performance date of June 25th, 2010, I will discuss this project in greater detail and show some glimpses of what's to come.

ZED - This is the year I will be completing my comic series, ZED. Issue #10, which wraps up the entire story, is well on its way (I inked several pages over the holidays). I'm planning on releasing it by September 2010, exactly ten years after the release of issue #1!

I have a few more irons in the fire but as of now, this is what gets my artistic blood boiling for 2010.
