Elemental Magic Book Lauching Party
April 21, 2009

Yesterday, I received a copy of Elemental Magic: The Classical Art of Hand Drawn Animation from Focal Press. People who follow my log may remember that I posted about the book last November when Joe (my friend and author of the book) asked me to write the foreword for it. Now that I have the book in hand, I can honestly say that it doesn't disappoint. Anyone with an interest in traditional FX animation should go buy a copy right now. Joe is having a launch party in Vancouver on Friday, April 24th and needless to say, I'll be attending. Hope to see some of you there as well. Click below for details.

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet gets a blog!
April 11, 2009

Hello folks. Many months ago, a decision was reached by concensus by my partners at Fuelcell and I, that we would keep quiet about our videogame, Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, until we get closer to our release date. Although, I was itching to release new footage and images, I held myself back and agreed to keep everything under wrap.

I'm happy to announce that we've decided to break our vow of silence and start sharing some of our work on-line to get people excited. As production progresses, I will share our triumphs and hardships, I will update with insights, videos and images at least a couple of times a month. I hope you'll enjoy the ride. Read the blog at www.InsanelyTwistedShadowPlanet.com.

Award Nomination
April 4, 2009

I'm delighted to be nominated for a 2009 Joe Shuster Award in the Best Cartoonist category. This is my second JSA nomination (the other one was in 2007) for my “Saga of Rex” contributions to the annual Flight anthology. Cool.

You can read the full list of nominees here.

The Beauty of Print on Demand
March 28, 2009

Last year, I used Lulu's POD (print on demand) services to print my two latest books ("Frenzied Fauna and Freaky Flora" and "Wildlife from the Hot Spots"). Because of the nature of POD, I was able to print smaller runs and not invest thousands of dollars up front. This time around, I wanted to try POD technology to create a sample book of "The Saga of Rex" to send to potential publishers. I also wanted to have some copies for myself to give as gifts and promos. I chose Ka-Blam Digital Printing for the task.

A few days ago, I received my proof copy of the book and I must say that I was pretty impressed. The paper is great (although a bit thin), the colors are fantastic (better than Flight, where the story is being serialized) and the cover looks sharp (although I did notice some slight horizontal streaking in the blue areas). Overall, the whole package feels very professional.

I will definitely keep Ka-blam in mind for some of my upcoming projects. With all the various POD companies sprouting up, this is indeed an exciting time for authors who wish to self-publish!

T-Shirt Design for Vancouver Jazz Festival

March 22, 2009

Last September, I announced that I created the poster for the upcoming 2009 Vancouver International Jazz Festival. The festival management liked the poster so much that they just asked me to design a t-shirt to go along with it. More here.

ZED #10 in the Works
March 15, 2009

I'm really excited about the upcoming ZED #10. I nailed the whole story in thumbnail form and managed (at least in my mind) to tie everything together. This issue will complete the story arc, "The Rise and Fall of Maxuss", that's been going on since issue 1.

Once issue 10 is out, I'm ready to pitch ZED as a movie.

I'll keep you posted with previews as I go.
