Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet Descends Upon Mac and Linux
October 23th, 2014

Official Press Release

Shadow Planet Productions is delighted to announce the release of Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet for Mac and Linux.

The brainchild of multi-media artist, Michel Gagné, and game veteran, Joe Olson, ITSP is a 2D exploration/shooter/puzzle-solving downloadable game where you control your multi-tooled flying saucer inside an alien world full of mystery, threats and wonder. ITSP was initially published on Xbox Live Arcade in summer 2010. The game enjoyed great reviews, good sales, and even took home a BAFTA and an Annie Award.

Michel Gagné explains how the ports became possible, "In late 2013, when we were told that Games for Windows Live would be retired thus rendering Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet obsolete for the PC, Joe and I saw an opportunity to amend our contract with Microsoft and expand the reach of  our game by being allowed to self-publish. We were able to handle the GFWL removal and replace it with Steamworks for the PC. Next, we ported the game for both, Mac and Linux. We've gotten many requests for a Mac version and today, we're happy to finally deliver."

ITSP is now available for Mac and Linux on Steam, and the Humble Bundle Store.

Battleborn Pre-Alpha Demo
September 22nd, 2014

Gearbox just released a pre-alpha work-in-progress demo of Battleborn—the game I've been working on as FX director for almost a year now.

I'm very excited that this project has become a perfect playground for me to experiment with integrating my brand of 2D FX animation within a 3D CG animated world. The demo is still rough, and everything will get a lot more polished in the end, but it will give you a good idea how my work looks in the game. Of course, I need to give thumbs up to the rest of the FX team with whom I'm working in tandem: Jim, Seung, Nick, Gabe and Ash! I think once we're done with this project, we will have created something truly unique FX-wise.

For those interested, the FX in the game are animated/created using a mixture of Toon Boom Harmony and Gearbox's proprietary software, Perforce.

I took a few screengrabs of the demo to highlight some of my effects work (please keep in mind that this is a team effort and that the other members deserve much credit also for bringing their skills and expertise to the equation).

No More Rabbits... for Now
September 14th, 2014

Toying with new graphic novel and short film concepts. Since I gave up doing the Insanely Twisted Rabbits of the Week, following a discussion with philosophical guru, Erial Ali (see Facebook post), I decided to try refocusing my small amount of spare time towards new ideas and frankly, I find it kind of exciting. I ended up doing a few more rabbits but decided not to post them and keep them in a drawer for the time being. Might be an idea I come back to later. I'm not sure at this point.

The whole idea, in the first place, was to create additional rabbits for a new edition and printing of Insanely Twisted Rabbits. The current printing (2nd) is almost out of print and I thought I'd start planning a new edition reprinting the first book in its entirety as well as enough new rabbits to make up a total of 101. The book would have come out in 2016 and be called something along the lines of, "Insanely Twisted Rabbits 101: 15th Year Anniversary Edition". Now, I decided to let the book go out of print and move on to other things. Time is limited especially as full time FX director for Gearbox until April 2015. The only time off I get is on the weekend. You have to pick your battles. BTW, I have about 20 copies left of the original book (out of 8000 printed) if anyone is interested in a signed copy.
